How to Promote FutureYou as an Affiliate (Without Being Sleazy)

    The One Rule

Only recommend tools you would use yourself. Everything below assumes you have opened a free FutureYou account, run your own numbers, and formed an actual opinion. If you have not — start there.

Step 1: Pick an Angle That Matches Your Audience

You are not promoting "a budget app." You are answering a specific question your audience already has. Match the tool to the pain.

    | If your audience is asking… | Point them at… | |---|---| | "When can I retire?" | Retirement calculator | | "How do I pay off debt faster?" | Debt payoff calculator | | "Is my budget healthy?" | Budget calculator | | "How do I reach FI?" | FIRE calculator | | "What should I do with my TFSA/RRSP?" | TFSA or RRSP |

Each of those pages has a free interactive tool, so your audience gets value before hitting a paywall. That is the entire conversion trick — no bait, just useful stuff.

    Step 2: Write the Content

Highest-converting formats we see in the affiliate dashboard:

    1. Comparison posts — "FutureYou vs YNAB," "vs Mint," "vs Monarch." See our own vs YNAB page for structure.
    2. Personal case studies — "I calculated my retirement number. Here is what I found." Screenshot the retirement widget output.
    3. Round-ups — "5 free tools every 30-something should use in 2026." FutureYou slots naturally next to Wealthfront, HYSAs, and index funds.
    4. YouTube walkthroughs — 3–5 minute screen recording of you using the budget planner with your own numbers.
    5. Newsletter one-liners — "Tool of the week: FutureYou. I used it to model what happens if I bump my 401(k) from 8% to 12%. Wild."

Step 3: Place the Link Naturally

    • Above the fold in blog posts if you are answering a specific tool question.
    • In the description on YouTube, plus a pinned comment.
    • At the end of newsletters, not the top — trust first, ask second.
    • In your bio for social platforms that limit links.

Avoid: pop-ups, interstitials, and "click here for the discount code" language. Our sign-up is free, so there is nothing to unlock.

Step 4: Disclose (Actually — Do This)

The FTC and every ad platform require clear affiliate disclosure. It also just builds trust. One line at the top of the post is enough:

This post contains affiliate links. If you sign up for FutureYou through my link, I earn a commission at no extra cost to you. I only recommend tools I use myself.

    Step 5: Track and Iterate

Your affiliate dashboard shows clicks, signups, and paid conversions per link. Two things to watch:

    • Click-to-signup rate — below 5% usually means the content is misaligned with the tool you sent them to.
    • Signup-to-paid rate — below 8% usually means the pre-sell was thin. Free users convert to Pro when they hit our free tier limits, so drive people who actually need the paid features.
